Bethesda‘s much-awaited RPG game, Starfield, has been given a release date of September 6, 2023. With ample time in hand, one can ponder over buying it. However, given the previous experience with Fallout 76, it is reasonable if some decide to refrain from purchasing it.
It is commonly believed that humans can learn from their mistakes and improve upon them in the future. However, only time will tell if this is true for Bethesda’s approach with multiplayer in their upcoming space-themed game, Starfield.
Bethesda Game Studios developed an action role-playing game called Starfield, which Bethesda Softworks are publishing. The game was officially announced at Bethesda’s E3 press conference in 2018 and is set in a space-themed environment. This will be the first original property developed by Bethesda in more than 25 years. The game is expected to be launched on September 6, 2023, for Xbox Series X/S and Microsoft Windows.
Does Starfield Have Multiplayer Mode?
Starfield‘s campaign is designed for single-player only, with no foreseeable intentions of adding a Multiplayer mode. This approach is consistent with Fallout 4, emphasizing a solitary yet engaging experience throughout the game.
It has been a matter of public knowledge for quite some time that Starfield, the upcoming game from Bethesda, will not have any multiplayer features. The developers first mentioned this in a general interview in 2020, and since then, there have been no indications of any multiplayer elements being added to the game. Todd Howard, the Game Director of Starfield, has consistently labeled it as a “single-player game” whenever he talks about it.
The most recent trailer, which disclosed the launch date, did not provide any details about multiplayer. Therefore, it can be presumed that the company still maintains the same position on this issue after three years.
It is possible that this could serve as a means for making up for the shortcomings of Fallout 76, which was often criticized for keeping players confined to online mode. While there is nothing inherently wrong with playing with others, players should be free to decide how they want to experience the game at any particular time.
At present, Starfield appears to be solely designed for single-player gameplay. However, an upcoming Starfield Direct event on June 11 will unveil further information and potentially another game preview. If multiplayer is incorporated, it will probably be announced during this event.
Starfield is situated in the Settled Systems area, extending outward from the Solar System for approximately 50 light-years. The game is set around 2310 during the Colony War, a conflict between the two largest factions, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective. After 20 years of the war, the major factions enjoy an uneasy peace. The player takes on the role of a customizable character who is a member of Constellation, an organization of space explorers. One can choose to play the game in either first- or third-person perspectives.
