Master Dota 2 Strategy: How to Watch Replays and Improve Your Gameplay in 2022!
You can watch replays in Spectator mode, although the replays can be played at different speeds or just the highlights. The replay may take a moment to become available after playing a match.
Replays include:
- Audio streams of casters
- Casters’ camera perspectives
- Players’ camera perspectives
Replays with audio streams are considerably larger in file size.

Takeover Mode
Players can take control of heroes during a replay in this mode.
10 players are required to open a lobby window for each player to select the hero they wish to take over. Takeovers are considered a new match and have separate replays recorded from when you take control. Only available on replays created after the January 29, 2014 Patch.
How to watch a replay offline in DOTA 2?
Here is the step-by-step guide to watch replays in DOTA 2.
- Open Steam
- Right-click on Dota 2 in your library
- Select Properties. Click on Set launch options.
- Type -console. Click on OK.
- Open Dota 2.
- You should see the console window in addition to the normal display.
- Type play demo replays/replay-id.dem
- Press enter. Enjoy!
You can rename replays to make them easier to find based on the replay-id, a number such as 563581. If you have a large number of replays, it’s helpful to label them 1, 2, etc.
What is Spectator Mode in Dota 2?
DotaTV is a real-time viewing experience that is accessible from the Watch tab in the game. You can spectate as part of a Group or a Party. Third-party content can also be seen on Dota 2‘s official streaming hub.

Camera
There are four styles of camerawork to choose from when watching a live feed.

Broadcaster
Spectators can select from up to 6 broadcasters to listen to.
